The province of Denizli, located in the Western Anatolia at the southwest of the region, is acting as a natural gateway between the Agean, Central Anatolia and the Mediterranean regions. The province of Denizli, has had close relations with all the City States in Anatolia since the Chalcolithic Era (5500 B.C.). With its historical, economic, and cultural inheritance in the background, the city of Denizli is directly contributed to the growth and development of the city states. Denizli, called upper Great Menderes Valley, has rich social, historical, cultural and economic sources. Denizli which draws much attention with its fast developing economy has been under scrutiny with respect to its outstanding social, cultural and economic characteristics. The latest excavations in Laedikeia by archeologists in Pamukkale University have contributed much to scientific studies. The city of Denizli has continually been densely inhabited by Turks since XI th. Century, and the era has had the traces of rich Turkish Culture since Seljuks. At its road of its progress in textile, industry and trade lies the system of enterprise which stems from rich cultural accumulations. The researches on Denizli with its rich historical and cultural heritage are not in direct line with its rapidly growing economic progress. Thus, in commemoration of the eighth Hundreth of Turkish conquest, “International Symposium of Denizli and its Environment” has been organized. It is aimed at introducing the scientific researches in the past and stimulating the new ones on the one side and compensating for the lack in this field on the other hand. Generally, the main focus will be on Denizli and its neighbouring area in the course of its history, archeology, geography, cultural structure, political, economic, religious and social history to pics of Romans, Byzantines, Seldjuks and Ottoman, Turkish National War and Republican periods.
